Xenia for Ann, Don, and Marcia
On our way home from Dayton, we decided to return to Columbus via Xenia, which is where David's mom grew up and where his dad went to high school. Once we got there, we called and got the address where she used to live. We plugged it into the Garmin, and found the spot. Unfortunately, there was no house there. Just a double lot. Next time we want to see if we can find the site where David's grandfather and great grandfather had their dental practice.
After Xenia, we went eight miles down the road to Yellow Springs. Yellow Springs is the home to Antioch College, perhaps one of the most liberal institutions in the country. That being said it is now closed due to lack of funding. Yellow Springs is also home to a good deal of artisans and there is a cute little downtown with lots of shops featuring all kinds of hand made goods and perhaps the highest per capita rate of coffee shops that we have ever seen. We ate at a Peruvian American restaurant, that had some of the best french fries that I've ever eaten. The Peruvian food was likewise as good. We then grabbed a cup of coffee (unfortunately, we got there so late that most of the shops were closed) and headed to a playground for Breyten to run off some steam. We debated a while about returning to the coffee shop and watching the Soulfire Girls hula hoop review. I mean, really, how can you beat flaming and LED hula hoops? But we ultimately decided to head home as we had two very tired kiddos, not to mention two pretty beat parents.
It was a great little excursion into southwest Ohio, and we had a great time retracing the steps of David's parents' youth. We highly recommend Yellow Springs if you ever find yourself in the neighborhood. It's not far off of I-70, and it sure beats McDonalds (sorry Breyten) if you want to grab a bite.

This is a cosmetics business on Main Street. We were amused by the slogan "The place to customize your face"
