Spring Break 2009, Stage 1 West Virginia

I'm taking advantage of the wireless connection at the Holiday Inn in Oak Hill, WV. This is where we stopped for the night on our way down to see my aunt and uncle in Richmond, VA.

Despite all attempts of our lives in Columbus to prevent us from leaving last night, with a little help from Claire who babysat while we packed the car, we were able to leave only an hour off schedule (which is great, if you know how late we usually run).

The drive wasn't as long as I had thought it would be, but the weather was stinky and the night was inky. It rained nearly the whole trip. The Garmin was a huge help, but we're learning that she likes to take us on routes as the crow flies, rather than by highway. So at midnight, we found ourselves in remote West Virginia mountain neighborhoods. But we kept our faith, and sure enough, she guided us to the hotel!

The kids were super exicted to get to the hotel, energized from their 4 hour nap in the car. David and I were exhausted. We got relatively decent sleep, and this morning we got to go swimming. Ada was adorable in her swimming suit (pic below) and both of them loved the water. We did too.

Now on to see the New River Gorge Bridge and surrounding environs. And then off to Richmond! More soon!
